Since its inception in the 1940s, The Barnet Society has organised a variety of events to stimulate, educate, agitate and entertain its Members.

We hold a series of talks, walks, and visits throughout the year, as well as a regular question-and-answer session with the MP for Chipping Barnet and an AGM in May or June.

The Society will also help publicise events organised by local groups and organisations.

Chickenshed hosts the Clarinet Maestro’s Album Launch on Sunday 24 March.

The charismatic virtuoso clarinettist Julian Marc Stringle celebrates the launch of his exciting new album ‘It’s Clazzical’ in concert with his all-star ‘Dream Band’ and violinist Sonia Slany’s ‘Solid Strings’.

‘It’s Clazzical’ is an effervescent  fusion of popular classic melodies and pulsating Latin Jazz rhythms. This dynamic show features stunning arrangements of masterworks by: Gershwin, Bernstein, Piazzolla, Mangione, Bechet, Jobim, Aznavour, Rimsky Korsakov, Dankworth, Stratta and Stringle.

Performing ‘It’s Clazzical’ with Julian at this gala concert in Chickenshed’s Rayne Theatre is a remarkable ensemble of renowned jazz players and distinguished classical instrumentalists: Neil Angilley - Piano, Dominic Ashworth - Guitars, Chris Dodd – Bass, Mike Bradley - Drums, Marc Cecil - Percussion, Sonia Slany - Violin, Jonathan Truscott - Violin, Steve Tees - Viola and Nick Cooper – Cello.
