Free to speak her mind?

After what for her personally – and for the rest of the country – has been a momentous political year, the Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers, will be the guest of the Barnet Society at our annual question and answer session at 3pm on Friday 20 January.

This will be a chance for residents to raise issues not only of local concern, but also of national interest.

As in previous years, we will start with questions relating to High Barnet, the role of Barnet Council, and then open the floor to wider political events.

In recent months, Mrs Villiers, now freed of ministerial responsibility, has appeared frequently on television and radio, and has been quoted regularly in the press, commenting on how the United Kingdom should proceed with Brexit following the referendum vote to leave the European Union.

She was one of the cabinet ministers who became a prominent Leave campaigner, but after the defeat of the Remain side, the resignation of David Cameron, and the appointment of Theresa May as the new Prime Minister, Mrs Villiers lost her job as Secretary ofState for Northern Ireland, and has returned to the backbenches at Westminster.

The question and answer session will be held at Christ Church, St Albans Road, starting at 3pm, and will be followed by refreshments.

A warm welcome is being extended by the Barnet Society to members of the Barnet and Hadley Residents Associations and to other local residents for what in the past has been a much-valued opportunity to quiz the Chipping Barnet MP.
