December highlight: Christmas Fayre returns to Barnet High Street
After missing out last year, the High Street will be closed to traffic again for the annual Barnet Christmas Fayre on Sunday 5 December.
Processions through the High Street – the photograph above was from the fayre in 2015 – draw huge crowds and there is always a wide range of events around the town centre.
Preparations are now underway for December 2021 and the Christmas Fayre Committee is hoping to draw on the support of the many local organisations and groups that are so keen to encourage a revival of local activities after their absence during lockdown and the Covid.19 pandemic.
Once again stalls organiser Ros Staines is busy taking bookings and she hopes that there will be around 100 stalls supporting local charities, selling gifts, and offering a wide range of refreshments.
A children’s Christmas show is to be staged at the Bull Theatre – Christmas elves performed at the 2017 production.
Local choirs will be singing at several venues, including at the Christmas café in the Wesley Hall in Stapylton Road.
Dancers have already been booked for the stage show in front of Barnet College.
Contributions from the local community are welcome and groups or individuals who would like to take part – perhaps on the college stage or as a High Street busker –should contact the Bull Theatre’s artistic director Susi Earnshaw at info@susiearnshaw.co.uk.
Another much welcome revival will be the return of the Punch and Judy show in the courtyard of the parish church, next to Church Passage (seen in 2015). Children will also be able to visit Santa in his grotto.
Groups and organisations wishing to book a stall, perhaps offer sponsorship, and individuals wishing to volunteer as a steward for the day should email info@barnetarts.uk
